Worship and ritual are very important matters in Hinduism. “Puja” is the name of the Hindu worship and it ranges from a silent prayer to elaborate ceremonies which are led by Brahmans or Hindu priests. Seas and rivers have a holy significance to the Hindu faith so they’re especially proper places to celebrate the “pujas”.
It is really interesting and surprising to watch a whole “puja”. On one hand, the faithful’s faces express respect, devotion and concentration. On the other hand, the rituals they do include activities so funny such as eating blessed sweets, powdering their faces, turning round to oneself and, of course, taking a dip in the sea. Once more I realized that the beat of the Indian heart isn’t in the museums but outdoors, there where people are.
